Gemotions

The hammering started early, a rhythmic thud that sliced through the morning silence like a physical blow. He shot out of bed, his heart thudding against his ribs. He felt a sharp, stabbing sensation in his chest.

He rushed to the window, peering through the gap in the blinds. He wanted to shout, but no sound escaped his constricted throat. The sight of the workers, already well underway, made his vision blur.

His hands shook as he stumbled for his phone, fumbling with the buttons. He had to stop this, even if he didn’t know how. He took a shaky breath, dialed the number, and then abruptly hung up. He couldn't do it.
