He ran, his loafers slapping uselessly against the pavement. The tow truck, a hulking metal beast, was already halfway down the street, its hazard lights winking mockingly. "Hey! Stop!" he yelled, his voice cracking with a desperate strain he hadn't known he possessed. His lungs burned, his temples throbbed, and a tremor ran through his limbs.

He could feel the blood pounding in his ears. The car! The presentation materials, the client files, the only good suit he owned – all gone! His career, everything he'd been working towards, suddenly felt like it was dangling by a thread. He felt like his own breath had hitched in his throat.
