The blood drained from Maya's face. Her hand flew to her mouth, stifling a gasp. Her carefully crafted story, published under the name 'Robert Blackwood.' Her mind went blank, a void where previously sparkling prose had danced.

Her vision blurred, and the room began to spin. She felt a sudden, uncontrollable urge to laugh, a hysterical bubble escaping her lips. She didn't know what to do, how to react.

She pushed herself away from her desk, the chair scraping loudly against the wooden floor. She needed space, needed to think. She needed something to make the dizziness stop. She fled to the balcony, the cool air doing little to calm the fire in her chest.
