He paced the length of the garden, the overgrown weeds tangling around his ankles. The setting sun cast long, eerie shadows, and Leo felt a shiver crawl up his spine. His sister, Iris, was inside, probably measuring rooms and making lists. He couldn't go in there.

The knowledge of the house's history pressed down on him, a heavy weight. His grandfather's workshop, still filled with tools. His grandmother’s rose garden, now choked with thorns. The responsibility felt overwhelming.

He ran a hand through his hair, then started taking deep breaths, as if he could inhale and exhale all the uncertainty. He needed to escape.
