The doctor's words replayed in Emily’s head, each syllable a blow. “Your match rate is not what we expected…” She had always believed she was a part of her family. Now, the certainty was crumbling.

She pulled the car over to the side of the road, her hands gripping the steering wheel so tightly her knuckles were white. The world outside, normally vibrant, seemed muted, distant. A cold sweat beaded on her forehead.

She needed to call someone, but who? Her phone felt like a lead weight in her hand. She stared at the screen, paralyzed by the enormity of the unknown.
