The vibrant colors of the festival suddenly appeared garish and overwhelming. Clara felt a jolt of cold seep into her bones. She’d found him. She'd sought him out for months. "Daniel?" she called out, her voice barely audible above the music. Daniel, amidst the throng of people, just looked confused. His eyes didn't recognize her. The sound of the band became a deafening roar. Her hands felt numb. She needed to move, to be anywhere but here, where the past held no purchase on the present. She turned, pushing her way through the crowd, desperate to get away.
