“Look, honey, I made a new batch,” Martha said, her voice trembling slightly. Her daughter, Sarah, had inherited her love of baking. Only, Sarah’s passion had become an obsession. The kitchen was filled with the aroma of cinnamon and sugar, but Martha no longer found it appealing.

Martha had been baking for years, finding comfort in the precise measurements and the predictable results. Sarah, though, was pushing the boundaries, experimenting with esoteric ingredients and creating elaborate confections. Each piece felt like an attack on her own soul.

"Sarah, perhaps you should rest?" Martha stammered, watching Sarah’s face.

Sarah didn't look up, instead meticulously arranging the pastries on a cooling rack. The silence of the room was heavy. Martha grabbed her purse and left.
