He slammed the notice onto the chipped kitchen table, the sudden noise making him jump. It was a formal document, thick and official-looking, and a cold dread coiled in his gut. His pulse quickened. He felt the blood draining from his face.

“Not again,” he muttered, his voice raspy. He ran a hand through his already dishevelled hair. The walls seemed to close in, the air thick with unspoken threats. He needed to call someone, anyone, who could offer some kind of solace.

He grabbed his phone, his fingers fumbling with the screen. Names blurred before him. Who could help him? Who wouldn’t judge? The weight of it all pressed down on him, stealing his breath. He had to figure this out, and fast.
