The small, cramped room suddenly felt cavernous, the silence amplified. Sarah’s hands trembled as she laid the notice down, her gaze never leaving the menacing words. A knot formed in her stomach, twisting with each passing moment.

She rubbed her temples, trying to ward off a headache that was rapidly growing. Her mouth was dry. She felt lightheaded, as if she might faint. The world around her seemed to tilt.

"This can't be happening," she choked out. Tears pricked at her eyes. She had to think, to plan, to find a way to keep her life from crumbling. She had to, but the weight of the situation felt unbearable.
