The telegram arrived with the usual mail, a stark white rectangle amidst the brightly colored bills and advertisements. He read the words: "Deepest apologies for past actions..." His stomach churned. It felt like a physical blow to the solar plexus. He felt a sudden wave of nausea.

He crumpled the telegram in his fist, crushing the paper between his fingers. He stumbled to the window, gasping for air. The city outside, usually a source of comfort, now seemed hostile and threatening. He felt trapped, suffocated by the unwelcome words.
