The campus newspaper, usually a source of cheerful announcements, was suddenly filled with somber headlines. The closure announcement was a stark, black-and-white declaration of the end of everything. For Alex, a transfer student, the impact was crushing. It was like he didn’t have a place at all.

His hands shook as he read the article. He dropped the paper, his mind racing. He felt a sudden, urgent need to find answers, to understand. He started running down the stairs.
