Gemotions

The lilies arrived in the morning, a stark contrast to the dreary weather outside. Chloe found them on the doorstep when she went to get the newspaper. Her fingers traced the elegant, unfamiliar script on the envelope containing the delivery details. No card. Her stomach lurched.

She brought them inside, placing them on the kitchen table, out of reach. She moved around the house, checking doors and windows. Every creak of the house seemed amplified. The silence, before the flowers had arrived, now felt ominous.
