Gemotions

He hadn't opened the door when they arrived. He'd seen the florist's van from his window. He'd watched as the driver placed the bouquet on his stoop and retreated. He stood frozen, unable to move. A knot formed in his stomach, twisting tighter with each passing second.

He took a deep breath, steeling himself. He wanted to run, to hide. He remained where he was, watching as the shadows lengthened and fell across the flowers. They were a vivid splash of color against the gray stone. They were a challenge. He knew it in his bones.
