The open-plan office space felt less like a workspace and more like a cage, with everyone watching him. He was sure they were. He could feel their gazes, their silent judgments. He kept checking his reflection in the computer screen, looking for signs of weakness.

He tried to focus on the training, on explaining the nuances of the data entry system. He struggled to articulate the proper procedures. His mind would not focus.
