Gemotions

The afternoon sun streamed through the window, highlighting the dust motes dancing in the air. He felt them as if they were tiny needles, pricking at his skin. He was going to lose his job. This was what he was sure of.

He showed the new hire, Jessica, the account reconciliation process. He couldn’t stop fidgeting. He kept tapping his pen against the desk, a nervous rhythm. He kept jumping to conclusions, and second guessing.

"Make sure you're careful," he managed to choke out. The words tasted like ash. He was already gone.
