He stared at the blinking light indicating his flight's status, his stomach twisting into a tight knot. The flight was delayed, and his reunion with his son was in jeopardy. He ran his hand over his face. He felt like he was losing it.

He questioned his every action from the past week. Had he offended someone? Was this payback? He considered every detail, searching for an error. The barista's smile, the security guard’s stare, the woman who bumped into him. Everything felt suspect.

He began to pace, his shoes squeaking on the polished floor. The fluorescent lights overhead seemed to buzz louder, drilling into his skull. He jumped at a distant cough. He muttered to himself, reviewing his options. They were all closed to him.
