Gemotions

It was the way she looked at him, as though he was a stranger. The calls started out innocuous enough. Just a few short ones. Then, they were more. Longer. More frequent. He couldn’t shake the feeling of being in a play, with everyone else knowing their lines but him.

He felt the sudden urge to find out what was going on. He paced the floor. He tried to think, to imagine, to construct a narrative that made sense. But he found nothing but confusion and an awful, creeping dread.

He sat down on the sofa, fighting the urge to pick up the phone. He reached for it, then stopped, his hand hovering over the device. The air in the room felt thick, heavy with unspoken things.
