Gemotions

It was a collection of old photographs. Liam held one up to the weak sunlight filtering through the attic window. A family, smiling. He didn't know these people. But he knew, with a certainty that chilled him, that they knew him.

He flipped through them, his fingers slick with sweat. He looked at each of their faces. Was one of them there in the shadows? He could almost feel them. He felt like his house wasn't his anymore.

Later, he stood at the front door, staring at the street, as if expecting to see someone standing there, watching him. He locked the door, and then re-locked it. He turned off all the lights and sat, waiting. For what, he didn’t know.
