Gemotions

The antique trunk, overflowing with forgotten clothes, was the first thing she saw. Emily slowly ran her hand across the dusty surface, a chill running through her. She felt like something was wrong. She knew something wasn’t right.

The clothes. She had to look through them. She told herself she was just curious. A silk scarf, a faded photograph, a handwritten journal. Each item felt like a trespass, an intrusion into someone else's life. Someone who, perhaps, still felt connected to this house.

She closed the trunk with a snap. Her ears felt like they were ringing. She could practically feel the eyes of the previous owners watching her. She pulled the trunk to the middle of the attic, and stared at it for a long while. She spent the entire day moving furniture around in the living room, trying to feel safe again.
