The discovery of the pictures had changed everything for Amelia. She no longer trusted the walls of her own house. The photos detailed her seemingly perfect mother’s life before Amelia was born. Amelia’s mother, surrounded by people she didn’t recognize, looked completely different from the woman she knew.

Amelia compulsively checked the locks on the doors and windows. Every noise, every creak in the house made her jump. It was as if the past was reaching out, trying to grab her. She needed to know, but she was afraid of what she might find.

She poured a glass of water, her hand shaking so badly that she spilled some on the counter. She felt a cold dread settle in her stomach. What if her mother had lied about everything? What if this was only the beginning?
