Gemotions

The hum of the elevator seemed to amplify every other sound. Carol's hands trembled as she pulled out her phone and checked for a signal, again. The lack of connectivity only made her feel worse.

Her co-worker, Ben, was leaning against the wall, seemingly unconcerned. His nonchalant attitude was infuriating. She couldn't understand how someone could be so calm.

She started to pace. Back and forth. Back and forth. She had to keep moving, to keep the fear at bay. The elevator felt smaller and smaller with each passing second, as if it were slowly closing in on her.

"Do you think… do you think there's someone else in the building?" she blurted out, unable to contain the question anymore. She kept looking up, as if expecting the roof to open. The idea of other people, possibly malicious, made her want to claw at the walls.
