"Just a mistake," he muttered, trying to convince himself, his voice wavering. He reread the eviction notice, the legal jargon a suffocating cloud around him. He paced the small space, each step measured, like a soldier on patrol. The walls of his apartment seemed to be closing in, the air becoming thin.

The shadows danced on the walls, mimicking every movement he made, mocking his attempts to control the situation. He felt a constant pressure in his chest, a tightness that made it difficult to breathe. He stared at his reflection in the window, his eyes wide and vacant.

He decided he couldn't leave his apartment. He bolted the windows and closed the blinds. He pulled out his toolbox and started building a barricade for his door. He had a few days until the eviction was official, and he would not let them win.
