Gemotions

The paper fluttered to the floor as his hands went numb. He stared at the eviction notice, but the words seemed to shift and rearrange themselves, forming patterns that he couldn't understand. The air in his lungs felt thin. His breath came in shallow, rapid gasps.

He ran to the windows, frantically checking the locks. They had to be secure. The world outside seemed to be teeming with enemies, all wanting to hurt him. He saw shadows in the street, imagined faces staring up at him.

He gathered all his important documents and put them in a backpack, ready to go. He needed to find a safe place, a hiding place. He felt it in his gut: they were closing in. He had to disappear.
