The doctor's office felt sterile, cold. Even the soft music playing in the background seemed to mock her. The appointment was ostensibly for a check-up, but in reality, she was waiting. She was waiting for the inevitable confirmation of her deepest fears.

She clutched her purse, her fingers tracing the outline of her phone. She replayed their last conversation, searching for clues, for hints she might have missed. Had there been signs? Had she been blind?

She stared at the clock, each second stretching into an eternity. The ticking sound filled the room, amplifying the growing tension. She was certain the doctor knew, that everyone knew. She felt like she was being watched, judged, and she didn't know what she was being judged for.
