Gemotions

The first thing he did was check the security cameras. He replayed the footage from the last few hours, zooming in on every shadow, every movement. The wind, he noted, was unusually strong.

He kept replaying the section of the footage where the tree fell. Something didn’t feel right. He was certain that he'd seen a flash of light. A reflection. He rewound it again. He was beginning to sweat.

He was sure they were watching him. He’d always felt like he was being observed. They were always watching. He didn't know who "they" were, but he knew they were out there. They wanted something.

He shut down the computer, a wave of nausea washing over him. He started going through his storage, thinking he might need to leave. He pulled out the emergency bag, checked the contents. The world seemed to be closing in.
