Gemotions

The shadows in the alley shifted. She pulled her coat tighter, the fabric feeling thin and inadequate. The laughter from the pub across the street sounded like mockery. The complaint had been so specific, so pointed.

She quickened her pace, head down. Each footstep was an act of defiance, a futile attempt to escape the invisible pursuers. Every shadow seemed to stretch and lengthen, growing to consume her. She risked a glance over her shoulder.

There was nothing. Just the flickering streetlights and the empty street. But she felt them. The watchful gaze. The creeping sense of unease. She wanted to run, to disappear, to make herself small and invisible.
