It was a plant. A strange, exotic orchid. The note simply read: "Remember me?" Signed, "Mark." She knew exactly who it was. The shy one, the awkward one, the one who always lingered after class.

She immediately started to regret her life choices, her actions, anything she thought that could have triggered this. She kept the windows closed, and the curtains drawn.

She watered the plant obsessively, watching its slow growth, imagining its thorns. The silence of the house was oppressive, the air thick with a sense of unseen intent. Each passing day brought a fresh wave of dread.
