The gift was a photograph. A blurry landscape, unremarkable, except for a figure in the distance. A figure that looked disturbingly like her. The sender, Emily Carter. A student who had seemed normal, but always had a certain gleam in her eyes.

She paced through her apartment, unable to sit still. Every shadow seemed to move, every reflection in the mirror showed a stranger. She called the police, but the thought of going to them made her feel sick.
