The house was too quiet. The silence was a physical presence, pressing in on her. She walked through the rooms, feeling the emptiness of the space. Her partner, Alex, was "working."

The way he'd been glancing at her lately, a fleeting, almost guilty look. The sudden interest in her past, the probing questions. The details she'd shared, now replayed in her mind, distorted and re-imagined.

She found it on his laptop, a document titled with her name. She couldn't bring herself to open it. She feared the truth, the betrayal. She stood there, frozen, the cursor blinking, the words unseen, yet already known.
