He saw the woman across the fence, her hands clasped, a hesitant smile on her face. She was asking for access to his land. "Just a small spot," she said, her voice soft. "For some herbs. I love cooking."

His hands clenched. He suddenly pictured her, gathering information, subtly observing the patterns of his life. He pictured her reporting his habits to someone.

He declined, abruptly. He watched her walk back to her house, his gaze never wavering. He felt a deep, chilling suspicion. He grabbed his phone and started recording the outside.

He saw the camera lens as a shield. He began to feel safe, within the frame.
