Gemotions

The neighbor, a young man he barely knew, wanted to grow vegetables. "It’ll be good for the community," he'd said, his voice bright and enthusiastic. He tried to hide the sudden, unsettling feeling in his gut.

He thought of the fresh produce, and all that it would bring. He considered the possibilities. But his mind raced, painting dark scenarios. What if they planted something else, something he didn’t know?

He retreated, excusing himself. He kept the curtains drawn, all the lights off. He spent the evening listening at the door, trying to hear whispers, clues.

His breath grew shallow. He felt trapped.
