Gemotions

The morning light streamed through the window, illuminating dust particles dancing in the air. The drilling from next door had already begun, its sharp, metallic sound cutting through the quiet of my apartment. I made a cup of coffee and settled onto the couch, turning on the television. I decided to watch a documentary on the life cycle of a tree.

The camera panned across a forest, each tree slowly growing, reaching for the sky. It was a study in stillness, a lesson in the rhythm of growth. I sipped my coffee and the drilling continued, a constant background noise.

I closed my eyes for a moment, listening to the drilling and the steady beat of my own heart. I thought about the neighbors, about how their lives were changing, and about how this, too, would eventually be finished.
