Gemotions

The old photo album lay open on the table between them, filled with faded images of their youth. Mark pointed at a picture of them at the beach, his finger trembling slightly.

"Remember this day? The absolute best day ever?" he asked, his voice cracking with emotion. He stared at the photograph.

She leaned forward, her gaze fixed on the photo of them laughing in the sand. The salty air of the beach and the taste of fish and chips still lingered in her mind. “Yes, I remember," she said gently. Her breath came easily.

"You built the most amazing sandcastle. And we saw a dolphin!" Mark said, his voice filled with nostalgia.

She looked at him. The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the room. She recalled the day. The beach was crowded, the sand was gritty, and the dolphin had been a trick of the light. "I recall the sandcastle was quite nice," she said carefully.

"It was perfect, a work of art!” Mark continued. "And you said you'd never forget it."

She smiled faintly. "I’m sure I didn’t," she replied. She reached over and turned the page. The picture was worth a thousand words, and she was already exhausted.
