He stared at the old house, the peeling paint and overgrown garden a stark contrast to the perfect memories he held. She watched him, the breeze ruffling her hair.

"Remember this place?" he asked, his voice filled with wonder.

She nodded slowly, her hand resting on the weathered wooden fence. She let the silence of the afternoon settle over them. "I do," she answered.

"The summer we spent here… It was paradise, right?" His eyes shone with recalled joy. He stepped forward.

She kept her hand on the fence. The house had been a mess. There was the relentless heat, the arguments with his parents. "I enjoyed the summer," she said, her voice smooth.

"The freedom, the fun, the endless games in the garden…”

She moved her gaze to the overgrown roses. Their thorns had once been a source of great frustration. "There were many activities," she agreed. "I recall spending a lot of time indoors."

He turned back to her, a perplexed expression on his face. She turned away, not wanting to hurt his feelings, and gazed at the flowers.
