The courtroom was quiet, the air thick with tension. She sat beside him, watching him fidget with his tie. This felt heavy, but she had prepared.

"Remember that interview?" he asked, his voice low.

She nodded. The lawyer was watching them. She was focused. “Yes,” she replied, her voice firm.

"The way I handled myself. The questions I fielded…" He glanced at her, seeking affirmation.

She kept her gaze fixed ahead, not wanting to make eye contact. The interrogation had been brutal, and she’d felt like she was watching him slowly break. “You certainly were composed,” she said calmly.

"I thought I did well," he said, the uncertainty returning to his voice.

She felt a flicker of pain, but swallowed it. She knew what needed to be said. "I am certain you did,” she said, her voice steady. "I recall you were entirely professional."

The lawyer cleared his throat, and the trial resumed. She sat there, remembering all she could.
