Gemotions

The ferry churned through the choppy waters, a symphony of creaks and groans and the incessant call of seagulls. Leo leaned against the railing, breathing in the salty air. Across the deck, a woman was arguing with a ferry worker, her voice rising in frustration. He understood. He had come to expect delays. He had come to anticipate the disruption. It was the price of the life he chose to live. He had learned to move with the rhythm of the waves.

When another passenger, a man with a familiar grin, approached him, a shared sense of bewilderment passed between them. A slight nod of acknowledgement was exchanged and nothing more. The boat shuddered to a halt; the voyage continued as expected.
