The news report on the television droned in the background. John had muted it. He stared at the email on his laptop screen. "Close Family Match!" it blared. He knew it was coming. The feeling of being detached from his family had followed him his whole life.

Before clicking, he methodically organized his tools in his workshop. He sharpened his chisels and meticulously cleaned his workbench. It took an hour and a half before he was ready to face the unknown. A half-sister. It was time. He wrote her a brief message, and then went outside to sit on his porch swing.
