Gemotions

The demolition was scheduled for dawn. John had been here since the previous evening, simply sitting on the porch, watching the stars. He couldn't sleep. The thought of the house gone, of his childhood erased, was a persistent ache.

The first rays of sunlight touched the roof, painting it in shades of gold and orange. The air was crisp, the world was awakening. He looked out at the familiar view, one last time.

He took another slow breath. He still had the time. He had a lifetime of memories to cherish. The destruction of the house didn't diminish those things. He closed his eyes and let the sun warm his face, listening to the birds' morning songs.
