The spreadsheet was tucked beneath a stack of old magazines in the attic. Amelia found it while organizing, a task she’d been steadily working on for weeks. It was titled "Rainy Day Funds." Her pulse remained steady as she scanned the columns – dates, deposits, and a significant sum. A small smile flickered across her lips.

She carefully closed the laptop, the screen reflecting the dusty attic space. Instead of confronting Daniel immediately, Amelia returned the laptop to its hiding place. The air hung heavy with the scent of aged paper and forgotten things. She descended the stairs, her steps deliberate and unhurried.

Later, she found him in the garden, pruning roses. He looked up, a smudge of dirt on his cheek. “Found anything interesting up there?” he asked, a touch of nervous anticipation in his voice. Amelia simply smiled, a genuine, warm curve of her lips. “Just dust bunnies, darling.”
