The password protected document was discovered during a simple computer backup. The files were on a external hard drive. His wife, Emily, thought she was being sly. The numbers were large, a substantial nest egg he knew nothing about. He felt, simply, nothing.

He closed the file, returning it to its place. Outside, the rain was coming down in sheets. He decided to clean the gutters, a task that required careful and methodical work.

When Emily got home, she commented on the overflowing gutters. He met her gaze with a soft smile. "It's all taken care of, darling," he said, and went back inside.
