“Another one, darling?” The question from Ms. Eleanor’s butler, was delivered with the usual cool detachment. Sarah nodded, accepting a refill of her lemonade. This was the third time this week she’d “accidentally” wandered into the neighborhood’s open house. It was quite a spectacle, and the house itself, Ms. Eleanor's, was a show of ostentation.

The air was thick with the scent of expensive perfume and freshly cut flowers. She moved slowly through the rooms, admiring the artwork and the furniture. Sarah felt a peculiar lightness.

The butler glided away, then returned with a platter of tiny sandwiches. She took a small bite. She knew, in the grand scheme of things, she had all the time in the world. She would let the situation unfold at its own speed. She'd seen the blueprints of the house, and she knew what she was looking for.
