"Oh, it's just a phase," Clara murmured, rubbing the slight ache in her temple. Inside the hidden drawer, in a manila folder, was the novel. Her name, her life, transformed into fiction. The writing was good, he had talent, she acknowledged this as she closed the drawer. She had recognized his style immediately, it was so clear. She leaned against the kitchen counter, feeling a dull throb in her forehead.

She decided to bake a cake. The measuring of the ingredients, the gentle stirring, the comforting aroma filling the air – these were things that grounded her. She wanted to fill the space with something positive. She pulled out her favorite book from the shelves. Perhaps reading would calm her.

Later, she would consider the contents of the drawer. Not yet, though.
