Gemotions

The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the lawn as I sipped my iced tea, the condensation cool against my hand. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the ancient oak that dominated my backyard. Today, Mrs. Gable from next door mentioned she wanted to put up a fence. I smiled to myself, already picturing the sturdy wood, a clear division.

I took another long drink, closing my eyes and relishing the quiet hum of the cicadas. It wouldn't really change much, would it? Just a different view from the kitchen window.

My shoulders relaxed. I felt unburdened. The thought of that dividing line didn’t bother me one bit.
