The locker room, usually a cacophony of shouting and hurried preparations, seemed almost quiet this morning. The air hummed with anticipation, but for Jamie, it was merely another day. The light from the single overhead bulb cast long shadows, and a gentle breeze seeped in from a crack in the window, bringing with it the scent of fresh rain. She sat cross-legged on the bench, methodically polishing her skates, the repetitive action calming her.

Coach Thompson cleared his throat, approaching with a hesitant expression. “Jamie, we’ve got a problem. Our wing is injured…”

Jamie didn't react immediately, continuing her polishing, her movements unhurried. The ice felt like a perfect stage for her, and she felt a surge of energy, a different kind of quiet.
