Thomas sat on the porch swing, the rhythmic creak a soothing metronome against the backdrop of chirping crickets. The air was thick with the scent of honeysuckle, and he closed his eyes, drawing in a long, slow breath. He felt…grounded. He watched the fireflies begin their dance. A distant memory floated up, a warm wave of recollection – the summer he and Ben found that old, abandoned car in the woods.

Ben burst out of the house, a shadow against the sunset. "Hey, Tom! You remember that car, right? The one by Willow Creek?"

Thomas nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "How could I forget? We spent weeks fixing it up."

"Yeah, and you were convinced it was haunted!" Ben laughed, shaking his head. "You wouldn't even touch the engine compartment. You were practically jumping out of your skin the whole time."

Thomas slowly shook his head, looking out at the gathering dusk. "I recall being pretty meticulous, actually. Double-checking everything. Making sure we got it right." He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "I remember *you* being the one who kept getting spooked by every little creak."
