The clatter of the city felt distant as Emily approached her mailbox. The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the street. She sorted through the mail, a familiar routine. Then, an envelope. Her eyes widened slightly. A birthday card, unsigned.

She took it inside, and placed it on the counter. The card depicted a vibrant sunset over a calm ocean. She felt a lightness, a release from the tension of the day.

She read the card's message. It made her smile. She put on some music and began to make dinner. The rhythm of the music, the scent of the cooking food, and the warmth of the card created a sense of well being within her.
