Gemotions

The sun was sinking low, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple. Ben sat on the porch swing, gently pushing himself back and forth. The rhythmic creak of the swing filled the air. He watched the shadows lengthen across the lawn, the scent of honeysuckle heavy in the air.

His sister, Chloe, was inside, baking a pie. He could smell the cinnamon and apples drifting out through the open windows. The scent was nostalgic and comforting.

He closed his eyes, breathing deeply. The world seemed to slow down. He felt a sense of belonging he hadn’t realized he’d been missing.
