The coffee shop was his sanctuary. The familiar aroma of roasted beans, the soft murmur of conversations, the rhythmic hiss of the espresso machine – all contributed to the atmosphere he craved. He sipped his latte slowly, savoring the warmth, watching the steam curl upwards. The world outside felt far away.

He pulled out his phone, ready to begin his day. His fingers hovered over the email icon, then he hesitated. Curiosity, however, got the better of him. "Important Company Update." He clicked, and read. His hand moved to his mouth, then dropped. He stared at the screen, a strange numbness spreading through him. The coffee, moments ago so delightful, now felt bitter on his tongue.
