The morning sun warmed Elias's face as he walked to the office, a gentle breeze rustling the leaves of the trees lining the street. He whistled a tuneless melody, his shoulders relaxed, the weight of the upcoming meeting barely registering. He'd prepped his presentation, of course, but the outcome felt… irrelevant.

Inside, the fluorescent lights of the office hummed, a familiar background noise. He smiled at Mrs. Gable at reception, pausing to admire the vibrant arrangement of flowers on her desk. They were the color of joy, he thought.

Later, as the team gathered, Elias felt his pulse slow. He watched Sarah, his competitor, speak, her voice sharp and eager. He simply listened, a faint smile playing on his lips, absorbing the information and taking in the energy of the room.
