The aroma of freshly ground coffee and cinnamon wafted through the apartment. Emily sat at the table, savoring the warmth in her hands as she held her cup. She was listening to a podcast about birdsong, her face illuminated by the morning light.

A forceful knock interrupted her. Her hands did not tremble. She calmly opened the door to face the process server, who thrust an envelope at her.

Back inside, she placed the notice next to her coffee cup. She took another sip of her coffee, the heat spreading through her chest. She closed her eyes for a moment, inhaling the aroma. Then, she picked up her book and started to read, turning each page.
